Professional Experience:
David advises clients on a broad range of strategic and commercial issues relating to trade marks, designs and patents including the commercialisation, protection and enforcement of those rights. David has experience in international trade mark opposition proceedings, appearing as counsel at trade mark opposition hearings, including the "UGG BOOT" decision which made international headlines in 2006.
David is also a published author and lecturer, who has lectured for the Australian Graduate School of Management's MBA program in Hong Kong in 2001 and 2002, the Asia Foundation's World Trade Organisation seminar series on intellectual property in Phnom Pehn in Cambodia in 2004 and 2005, Murdoch University's Masters in Laws program in 2000 and its undergraduate law program in 2007. David is affiliated with the Asia Pacific Intellectual Property Law Institute based at Murdoch University. David has a particular interest in geographical indicators of origin, has advised on appellation disputes in the wine industry, and has been a member of the International Trade Mark Association’s Geographical Indicators Asia-Pacific Sub-Committee.
