Professional Experience:
Vicky is a Patent Attorney with the Chembio group at Wrays. She specialises in patent prosecution and drafting for both local and overseas clients, providing patent infringement and validity advice, and conducting patent oppositions. Vicky also assists litigating clients in patent infringements and revocation proceedings.
Vicky is admitted to practice as a Patent Attorney in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. She is also a lawyer and is admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales as well as the High Court of South Africa.
Prior to joining Wrays, Vicky joined a large South African law firm before heading up a new biotechnology patent law department at a mid-sized South African law firm specialising in intellectual property. She has previous entrepreneurial experience in running her own consultancy patent drafting practice specialising in biotechnology for established South African law firms. She also has in-house experience in managing a patent and collaborative research contract portfolio for a university research unit as an in-house research officer.
Vicky previously completed postdoctoral research on the role of stress proteins in embryonic stem cell maintenance, as a Free-Standing National Research Fellow at Rhodes University in South Africa and as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Liverpool in the UK. She has also completed postdoctoral research in rational micro-RNA molecular design of novel therapeutics against carcinogenic viruses at the Medical School of the University of the Witwatersrand of South Africa. Her Ph.D. in Biochemistry was completed at Rhodes University in South Africa and as a Visiting Scholar at University College London in the UK, under the Rhodes University Henderson Scholarship.
