Professional Experience:
Vicky is an Intellectual Property Consultant with the Chembio group at Wrays, where she is involved in patent prosecution and drafting, providing patent infringement and validity advice, and conducting patent oppositions. Vicky also assists litigating clients in patent infringements and revocation proceedings.
Prior to joining Wrays in 2009, Vicky joined a leading patent law team at a large South African law firm before heading up a new biotechnology patent law department at a mid-sized South African law firm specialising in intellectual property. She previously completed postdoctoral research on the role of stress proteins in embryonic stem cell maintenance, as a Free-Standing National Research Fellow at Rhodes University in South Africa and as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Liverpool in the U.K. She also completed postdoctoral research in rational microRNA molecular design of novel therapeutics against carcinogenic viruses at the Medical School of the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. Her research has been published in several international scientific journals. During this time, she achieved her Law Degree and professional Patent Law qualifications at the University of South Africa and professional body institutions.
Vicky completed her PhD in Biochemistry at Rhodes University in South Africa and as a Visiting Scholar at University College London in the U.K. and was awarded the Rhodes University Henderson Scholarship. She is currently converting her legal qualifications to become an accredited Patent Attorney and an admitted Solicitor in Australia.
