Changes to Australia’s IP laws – Raising the Bar

Australia is currently going through a major reform of its intellectual property system. The Intellectual Property Laws Amendment (Raising the Bar) Act passed into law on 15 April 2012 and the majority of provisions in the Act come into effect on 15 April 2013. Attached is a summary of important legislative changes to help you understand and prepare for these provisions.

IP Australia has also begun preparing more detailed information about key issues that will impact the IP profession including transitional arrangements, distribution of evidence and the change from ‘sealed’ to ‘granted’. IP Australia’s website will be updated frequently with more information about the implementation of these changes.
