As a lawyer, I enjoy the legal and factual analysis which is part of the process by which informed commercial decisions are made.
With 30 years’ experience, I’m an intellectual property lawyer specialising in litigation and dispute resolution, enforcement of intellectual property rights, IP licensing and commercialisation, IT and internet agreements, and general IP advice. I regularly represent clients in legal actions, frequently in the Federal Court and interstate.
I have worked for start ups and multinationals and everything in between! I represent a wide variety of clients, from individuals through SMEs to publicly listed companies. Each has its rewards and challenges. The majority of my clients are usually in the fields of engineering, manufacture, IT, mining and resources. I have also worked on the advisory board of early stage companies, contributing experience in the fields of IP commercialisation and a network of contacts to help fund and support growing businesses.
In the midst of litigation or a dispute, my role as legal advisor is to deliver the best outcome for my client which is usually best served by an early settlement. But when the circumstances demand, and protracted litigation cannot be avoided, my role is to manage the litigation process and maximise the prospects of success whether enforcing the client’s IP rights or defending the client’s position. The costs of litigation are always a major factor and must be managed in the best interests of the client. When representing clients in a commercial matter however, I seek to add value by delivering cost effective commercial advice, managing risk and achieving clarity in contractual language.
I enjoy working with a team of people who can all contribute in a cooperative, collegiate environment. As a senior practitioner, I see part of my role as staff and business development and mentoring. And as a lawyer, I enjoy the legal and factual analysis which is part of the process by which informed commercial decisions are made. For the client, my role is to be embedded in the client’s decision making process to achieve the best outcome.
