Hatch wins WA Engineering Excellence award

Hatch, a valued client of Wrays, has been recognised in The WA Engineering Excellence Awards program as winner of the Control Systems, Networks, Information Processing and Telecommunications category. The awards encourage and celebrate engineering excellence by identifying, recognising and promoting excellence in the science and practice of engineering. The awards also provide peer recognition of engineering excellence, raise the profile of the profession and of local engineering, and highlight the contribution of engineers to the economy, to the community and to the environment.

Hatch’s winning project, Grande Côte Dredge Manoeuvring Control System included development and implementation of a control system using Hatch Virtual Spud Dredging Technology (HVSDT) to accurately manoeuvre a 1,200 tonne mining dredge located at a greenfield mineral sands project in Senegal, Western Africa.

Manoeuvring across the 200m wide pond is performed via four on-board electric winches anchored to a set of shore based anchors, without the need for an anchoring spud typical of such dredges. HVSDT which provides a complete dredge mining solution to ensure consistent and superior dredging performance, was developed in Perth, Western Australia.
