One Atmosphere awarded 2013 National Defence Innovation Award

Wrays client, One Atmosphere, has been awarded Maritime Australia Limited’s 2013 National Defence Innovation Award for its Pegasus system. The award was presented to One Atmosphere’s Managing Director, Mr Tim Lyons at an awards ceremony at Pacific 2013, attended by Australia’s Minister for Defence, the Hon. Senator David Johnston.

Pegasus addresses the aspects associated with a helicopter crash in water where pilots are not able to conduct a controlled landing. The Pegasus system is designed to keep helicopters at the surface after a crash or a controlled ditch in water. Pegasus activates autonomously post–crash to arrest a sinking aircraft, rendering it positively buoyant within seconds. The system is designed to provide significant buoyancy which allows the helicopter to float in a favourable orientation. This enables occupants to more easily and safely egress from the aircraft, increasing survivability.

One Atmosphere is an Australian company based in Rockingham, Western Australia. Founder and Managing Director Tim Lyons has developed various buoyancy systems applicable to the defence, mining and commercial sectors. Using its unique patented technology, One Atmosphere seeks to develop systems which will enhance safety or create value to the industries within which it works.

The Pegasus system is also a finalist in the Western Australian Innovator of the Year Awards (Woodside Oil and Gas category).
