Wrays Proud to Sponsor University of Sydney’s Intellectual Property Management Prize

Wrays is proud to sponsor the Wrays Award in Intellectual Property Management, awarded to the most proficient student in the postgraduate Intellectual Property (IP) Management course. The course is taught through the School of Business at the University of Sydney.
The award ceremony for the School of Business prizes was held on 13 June 2012. The prize for 2011 was awarded to three students, Mr James Henderson, Ms Renee Kennedy and Mr Michael Kinsela.
We congratulate these students for achieving very high marks in a difficult and complex subject.

Wrays attorney and lecturer at the University, Joe Seisdedos, has taught the IP Management course for a number of years. The course forms part of a broader Entrepreneurship and Innovation stream taught through the Discipline of International Business. It seeks to impart practical knowledge and skills to students from a wide variety of backgrounds. In particular, through the Commercialisation Training Scheme, the course attracts a large number of postgraduate science, engineering and humanities students, who all benefit from a strong foundational knowledge of IP, irrespective of their chosen careers.

According to Joe, “IP rights and the correct management of IP are becoming the defining legal and commercial issues of the 21st Century. The development of knowledge, know-how and innovation is crucial to sustained growth, both at the macro and micro economic levels. IP rights provide the legal mechanism that allows organisations and individuals to leverage their innovation and know-how. No organisation or individual can afford to operate in the modern economy without a working knowledge of them. I am proud to be associated with a program that seeks to educate the next generation of leaders about IP and how it fits into the bigger economic picture.”
